Protective Properties Of Calcium D-Glucarate

Posted by: farid fm

Studies have found that D-glucarate has therapeutic actions; among these are cancer prevention and serum cholesterol reduction. However, its most impressive property could be its ability to quickly detoxify the body of both artificial and natural toxins which can be potentially harmful. These toxins can be neutralized in many ways, with glucuronidation being one those ways. The process of glucuronidation involves using the liver to neutralize chemical carcinogens and steroidal hormones including estrogen. Once a toxin has been glucuronidated in the liver, it goes to the bile and is eventually eliminated from the body in the stool.

Beta-glucuronidase is an enzyme that is produced in the gut by unfriendly bacteria which can actually inhibit this process by chemically splitting a glucuronidated toxin before it is able to be eliminated in the stool. This unbound toxin can come into contact with the bowel lining where it can be reabsorbed and the whole process will be repeated. When a situation like this happens, cells are exposed, once again, to the chemical and the liver can become overworked. Thankfully, if D-glucarate is present, beta-glucuronidase is inhibited, resulting in a flawless glucuronidation in the body.

These findings suggest that taking D-glucarate orally as a supplement can provide us with the increased ability to efficiently and rapidly rid our bodies of toxins through problem-free glucuronidation. Additionally, D-glucarate does not work like an antioxidant, which neutralizes free radicals, but instead actually forms a type of bond with harmful compounds to enhance their rapid removal from the body. Some of the organs that can be especially toxin-sensitive are the breast, prostate, liver, lung, and kidney, therefore, they can greatly benefit from this process. These organs can be most damaged by the continued exposure to poisons and carcinogens.

Because our generation, more than that of any other, is exposure to a great number of potentially harmful environmental pollutants, our contact with carcinogens increased exponentially. Just some of the cancer-causing agents include cigarette smoke, pesticides, radon, hormonally-fattened meats, diagnostic and therapeutic x-rays, gamma radiation, trans-fatty acids, alcohol, poor diets, xeno-estrogen, herbicides, smog, car exhaust, certain prescription drugs, ultra-violet light, rancid foods, saturated / hydrogenated fats, some food/water supplies, and food preservatives. Although a lot of us have taken necessary measures to protect ourselves from exposure to the substances listed, it is inevitable that we will consistently take chemicals that can prompt the growth of cancer into our bodies.

Additionally, our own hormones can be a threat if they are not efficiently metabolized and excreted from our body. One study found that Glucarate supplementation amplifies the process by which carcinogens and hormones are removed from the body, while D-glucarate can exert a positive effect on different stages of the carcinogenic process. It has been found that lower cancer rates in some populations could be attributed to their consumptions of foods that are rich in D-glucaric acid, self-medicated with D-glucarate, or combine D-glucarate supplementation with other chemopreventive agents.

Either way, the protective function of glucarate in the body’s natural cancer prevention mechanisms has been established for long periods of time, while other recent studies have indicated that the use of glucarate could potentially present a fifty percent decrease in tumor incidence.

Is the Herb Damiana for Men or Women?
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Damiana can be used by both men and women. It is known to have restorative effects on reproductive organs in both sexes.

Uses:

For men, Damiana is known to raise levels of testosterone. It is also helpful in treating premature ejaculation and impotence. For women, it helps to induce delayed menstrual periods and ease the symptoms of painful menstruation. It also treats the headaches women sometimes get due to menstruation.

This herb has been widely advertised and used in Mexico as an aphrodisiac. The ancient Mayans used it as a sexual stimulant and people in Central America still use it in this way today. This use is controversial due to lack of scientific evidence to support the claim.

One study found some of the plant’s compounds to be similar to those found in progesterone. More than 150 herbs have been tested for their ability to bind with the progesterone and estrogen receptors found in breast cancer cells. Damiana was one of the highest progesterone-binding herbs tested.

The herbal properties of Damiana have a life enhancing and stimulating effect on the body and mind. The herb works well on nervous exhaustion and to restore the body after periods of high stress.

Other Uses:

Damiana’s stimulating action is considered very valuable to people who suffer from mild depression. Herbalists will typically recommend remedies that contain this herb. Damiana is very strong and aromatic, and has a slightly bitter taste. It can be found in different forms such as capsule, liquid extract and tea. Its leaves are used as a substitute for tea leaves in some countries. In other countries, it is used as flavoring in a variety of liqueurs.

Damiana acts as an antiseptic and tonic for the body. It is also a restorative agent for nervous system functions. Damiana is used for other conditions as well, although no scientific proof of its effectiveness exists. These conditions include:

* Asthma
* Anxiety
* Depression
* Headache
* Menstrual disorders

Damiana has been known to cause mild indigestion for some users. It also contains a compound called arbutin, which, in the urinary tract, converts into the chemical hydroquinone. Larger amounts can cause serious side effects such as:

* Convulsions
* Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Possible collapse and death

A maximum safe dosage of Damiana has not yet been determined. Also, the safety of using this herb has not been established in children or pregnant and nursing women. People with liver or kidney disease should use extra caution because their ability to safely use this herb is unknown as well.

In people using higher doses of Damiana, it is believed that they experience a mild euphoric sensation. In some cases, consumption of Damiana leaves has been known to act as a mild laxative. The more leaves consumed, the more prominent the laxative effect.

Damiana is native to parts of southern California and the Gulf of Mexico. It can also be found growing wild in some areas of the northern Caribbean Islands and Namibia. It is widely cultivated in these areas. Its preferred habitat has a hot and humid climate. It flowers in the summer and this is when the leaves are harvested. The leaves of the Damiana plant are the only part used for cultivation.

The herb can be taken in the form of a tea. Some people even smoke it like tobacco. The herb will bring about a relaxed state of mind for the user. It is said to induce a subtle high if smoked.

Damiana possesses many properties that are useful to both men and women. Research continues in an attempt to either prove or disprove claims of its benefits to humans.

Acid Reflux and Obesity
Posted by: Sw1218

No one knows the reason, but there is a close relationship between acid reflux and obesity. A recent and staggering statistic that was published by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) revealed that approximately 61% of the American population is obese or overweight.

That now puts 6 out of 10 U.S. Citizens at risk for gastro-esophageal reflux disease (commonly referred to as GERD) which is now nearing epidemic proportions. Acid reflux, is heartburn in the most severe form.

It is often accompanied by a variety of other symptoms and it is more challenging to treat than heartburn alone.

Statistics like the ones recently released from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) are very telling. Americans, who are prone to super-size everything, now have one more reason to re-think their diet and exercise regimen: acid reflux.

Although researchers are still unsure as to why acid reflux and obesity are linked, they are certain that a notable correlation does exist. If you are a sufferer and you think that your weight might be the culprit, a visit to your family physician may be in order.

Only he or she is qualified to make that diagnosis. The specific measure that is used to determine whether a person is “obese” or “overweight” as it is related to the symptoms of acid reflux is called a BMI, or body mass index, which is a calculation that is based on your weight and height.

BMI typically correlates with, but does not directly measure, body fat. The BMI is the measurement recommended by the CDC because it is inexpensive, readily available and easy to use for both the general public as well as doctors. It also allows you to gauge how your own body mass index compares to the vast majority of the country’s population.

If you would like to see where you rank, you can use the BMI calculator found www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/ You cannot depend on the kitchen scales to accurately measure your BMI, and there may be extenuating circumstances that you may not be taking into consideration, so it is essential that you consult a professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment options.

Once your healthcare provider calculates your BMI it is important to know that current studies have consistently revealed that the severity and frequency with which an individual experiences acid reflux symptoms is greater as their BMI increases. In other words, the heavier you are, the more you risk getting acid reflux.

That alone should be enough to motivate most sufferers to change their habits. Losing weight is not an easy thing to do. Nobody likes the word “diet” but if your acid reflux interferes with your life (with things like “heart-attack like” symptoms) you may be doing yourself a disservice by not exploring all of the non-medically related options that are available.

Prescription medications for acid reflux can be very expensive, especially if you are a cash paying patient. Although they are effective, they only mask the problem: your weight. Since acid reflux and obesity are obviously linked, the right diet and exercise plan may eventually eliminate the need for medication altogether by treating the underlying cause instead of the symptom.

Fat Tax on Junk Food
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

In an effort to discourage the levels of obesity in Britain, recent research is recommending a tax on unhealthy foods, such as those high in sugar, fat and salt. They claim that this ‘fat tax’ could prevent over 3,000 deaths from strokes and heart attacks every year. The research was led by Dr Oliver Mytton at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.

One suggested approach is to levy a tax against foods measured on what is called the ‘SSCg3d’ score – an ‘unhealthiness score’ to the rest of us. The SSCg3d score takes into account Energy levels, saturated fat, sodium and NME sugar content (the ‘A’ points), then the total Iron, Calcium, n-3, fruit and veg content (the ‘C’ points). An overall rating is than calculated by deducting the ‘C’ points from the ‘A’ points and given a rating between 0 and 10. A rating under 2 is considered ‘healthier’ food, 3 to 8 as intermediate, and 9 or above is considered ‘less healthy’. To give an example, Spinach scores a rating of -12, whereas chocolate digestive biscuits score +29.

An alternative economic model put forward in the study was to apply VAT to foods with a high level of saturated fat, e.g. butter and cheese, cakes and pastries. This model was found to be the least desirable as it could increase purchases of products high in salt, resulting in an increased number of deaths from strokes and heart disease.

A third suggestion was to introduce a tax across a wider range of food products containing high levels of sugar, fat and salt across the board. Many stores already use the ‘traffic light’ labelling system to indicate levels of sugar, fat, saturates, and salt in their foods. Products containing a red indicator should be avoided or taken in moderation, those labelled as amber are relatively neutral and can be eaten most of the time, while green indicates the healthier choice.

This model could prevent around 3,200 deaths per year and would add 4.6 per cent to the average household food bill, amounting to an extra £2 billion a year. A small cost compared to the dangers of obesity currently experienced in Britain.

Of course this is not an entirely new concept. It was pioneered by Kelly Brownell in the early 80’s. His proposal was to use the revenue gained from the junk food taxes to subsidise the cost of healthier foods. Twenty years on and we still find that healthy foods tend to cost more than unhealthy alternatives.

Tony Blair rejected the idea of tax on fatty foods in 2004, as it would make Britain too much of a ‘nanny state’! Perhaps we should all forget the healthy diet and keep popping diet pills such as Acomplia instead?

The Best Flavored Tea Pluckings
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

If you’re new to flavored teas, no doubt you’re wondering how to choose flavored teas of the best quality. The variety of the tea, the country in which it’s grown, the way it’s processed, the time it’s harvested and the way it’s flavored all affect the way a flavored tea will taste. In many varieties of tea, the time of harvest is particularly important, and can be difficult to understand and determine.

Following is some information that can help you choose the best flavored teas based on their harvest time. Flavored teas come in white, green, black and oolong varieties, and all varieties have different harvesting requirements for the best flavor.

Green tea –Flavored green teas have a very natural and mild flavor and brew to a pale green or light amber color. They are often somewhat sweet, and are described by many to be grassy in flavor. Many people who don’t particularly like the flavor of plain green teas, love flavored greens, because the flavorings mask the grassy taste while leaving the lightness that makes green tea so tasty.

Green tea harvesters often pluck green tea multiple times during the growing season. However, the first pluckings, or the “first flush” green teas will always be the best. This is because this first flush is picked in the spring, before the weather gets too hot. Tea that is plucked later in the growing season has baked in the heat and sun before harvest, which compromises the tea’s flavor.

White tea- All white tea is first flush tea. White tea is, by definition, picked only in the spring, when the tea plant blooms for the first time of the growing season. The tea is harvested before the buds are fully opened and while they’re still covered with a fine white hair, which is why it’s called white tea. One of the reasons that white tea is the rarest of all teas is because it can be harvested just once during the growing season. Flavored white teas are not yet common, but they are gaining availability. White teas are the mildest and sweetest of all teas, and absorb the fragrances and flavorings very well.

Black Tea – Most flavored teas are made from black tea, though other varieties are growing in availability. The best flavored black teas are also made from the first flush, for the same reason that was mentioned about green tea. Later flushes of black tea have been exposed to more heat and sun, and their flavor may have been compromised. The exception to this rule is Assam black teas, grown in the Assam region of India. The second flush of Assam black teas are said to be the best of the season. So, if you find an Assam flavred tea, look for second flush of the season.

Oolong Tea –Oolong teas are semi-fermented, meaning that they go through a fermentation process like black teas, but for a much shorter period of time. Most oolong teas are fermented to about 30%, unless they are pouchong oolong teas from Taiwan, which are only about 15% fermented. The longer an oolong tea is fermented, the more it tastes like a black tea. Therefore, pouchongs are much closer in flavor to a green tea. As with green and black teas, oolong teas are best from the first flush, when the weather is milder and the tea has had more rain.

Oolong teas have a fruity flavor and a very smooth finish that pairs beautifully with many fruit flavors. When choosing a flavored oolong tea, be certain to check as to whether it is a true oolong or pouchong, if you have a preference for a tea that is closer to green or closer to black.

Some of the best tea gardens only sell first flush black, green and oolong tea. Tea gardens that do harvest their tea all throughout the growing season should label their tea according to the harvest from which it was plucked, so there is no confusion about which teas are the best of the year. First flush teas are typically priced higher than teas harvested later in the season.

To choose the best quality flavored teas, you need to consider all of the following elements:

• The grade of the tea – this indicates the quality of the leaf itself.

• The tea plucking – this is a good measure of the tea’s flavor, as earlier pluckings are more flavorful.

• The quality of the flavorings – You should always choose teas flavored with all natural ingredients over those that use artificial flavorings.

By considering all of these elements, you’ll be able to choose a delicious, high quality tea, whether it’s green, black or oolong. Shop with tea merchants that specialize in only the very best quality of flavored loose teas, regardless of the variety.

Flavored teas are a wonderful treat. The combination of your favorite flavors with your favorite tea varieties makes for a great beverage, whether hot or cold, morning or evening. And, if you’ve never compared the taste of really high quality teas with that of inferior teas, you’ll be very surprised at the difference. High quality flavored teas are well worth the trouble and expense you’ll go to finding them!

Cure Your Acid Reflux With Products From The Kitchen
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Acid reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a relatively common problem, affecting up to seven million Americans, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

But you don’t need to suffer from this uncomfortable backing up of stomach acid that manifests as heartburn, regurgitation of stomach liquid and nausea. And you don’t need to resign yourself to taking a pill every day for the rest of your life to keep symptoms down.

I know what I’m talking about because my father had a major reflux problem caused by a surgery in which a bile duct was connected to his stomach instead of his intestine. For almost a year, he suffered for GERD that was so severe he threw up several times a day.

But eventually he discovered, quite by chance, that a simple supermarket apple made him feel better. He eventually determined how much apple and what kind of apple was the best to be consumed each day to keep all of his symptoms in check for good.

There are many other things that people with acid reflux can do to eliminate their symptoms. One of the most important things is to try to stop causing irritation and scratching of your esophagus, which will just make your acid problems worse.

Eating smaller meals is often helpful for people who have acid reflux. Some people recommend not drinking during a meal, since the liquid dilutes the acid and makes it easier for the acid to reflux. On the other hand, it’s a good idea to drink a glass of water after eating, because it helps cleanse the lower esophageal sphincter, which then closes up tighter, which means less acid will be able to get to your esophagus.

Cutting back coffee, alcohol and carbonated beverages, especially at meal times, are also good natural aids to eliminating acid reflux. It’s a good idea to cut back your coffee intake to just one cup a day, because coffee is acidic. If you do continue to drink coffee, drink a glass of water right after to clear away the acid.

One of the most important things you can do if you have GERD and you smoke is to quit smoking. Of course there are all sorts of wonderful reasons to quit smoking, but one that has to do with acid reflux is that smoking actually irritates your throat. What’s more, the chemicals in cigarettes cause your lower esophageal sphincter to relax, which allows even more fluid and other unpleasantness into your esophagus. Some people find that even quitting for just a couple of days is a big help for eliminating some of their irritation.

No one remedy works for everyone, but these ideas (plus tons of others in the Reflux Remedy Report) should get you back to feeling like your old self in no time.

Sleep Difficulties and Insomnia: A Practical Guide
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

On average, we need about seven to eight hours of sleep a night to function optimally. In today’s fast paced and high stress society, a third of the population reports difficulties with sleep, and about 10% of people report chronic insomnia, a condition that involves trouble falling or staying asleep, waking up in the middle of the night or too early in the morning, persistently poor sleep quality, and trouble functioning the next day.

There are many reasons why people have trouble sleeping. High levels of stress, anxiety, and/or depression are often the culprit. Other possible causes include medical problems or conditions, chronic pain, use of certain medications, excessive use of alcohol, nicotine, or caffeine, or the presence of a more complicated sleep disorder (such as sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome).

In order to address sleep difficulties, it is important to identify the specific cause. It is wise to consult with your family physician to rule out medical problems that could be causing poor sleep.

If sleep problems are caused by depression, anxiety, or high levels of stress, consulting with a psychologist is a good idea, as psychological treatments such as cognitive-behavioural therapy have been shown to very effective at decreasing anxiety and depression and helping people to improve how they cope with stress. Certain medications that target anxiety and depression can also be prescribed by your physician. If an underlying depression or anxiety disorder is properly treated, sleep problems often improve.

Sometimes people have sleep problems or insomnia in the absence of any other psychological difficulties such as depression or anxiety. In these cases, seeing a psychologist can still be very helpful, as certain psychological interventions have been shown to be effective at addressing poor sleep directly. Psychologists can teach you to learn to relax, cope with stress, and improve your “sleep hygiene” (or habits). Psychologists can also use other behavioural strategies to help target sleeping problems. About 75% of people with insomnia report significantly improved sleep after undergoing such psychological treatment.

Family physicians often prescribe hypnotic medications that help people to sleep. These medications are often helpful for individuals who are going through a stressful period. It is advised to only use these medications in the short-term as they can become addictive and less effective if you use them nightly over longer periods of time. Moreover, some of these medications can result in drowsiness and concentration difficulties the following day. Over the counter sleep supplements have generally been found to be ineffective.

As a general rule, sleeping medication can be helpful in the short-term but becomes less effective over time, whereas psychological treatments are effective in the long-term.

For more information on sleeping problems and insomnia, go to National Sleep Foundation website.

How Food Labels Can Help You Lose Weight
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Obesity is increasing worldwide and is becoming the world’s biggest health problem. Obesity is no longer limited to adults only – the percentage of obesity amongst children is growing at alarming rates. The skinny on obesity or being overweight is that it is no longer just a cosmetic issue. Obesity or being overweight increases the risk of serious health problems such as diabetes, certain cancers, heart disease, stroke, back and joint problems and discomfort, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, infertility, breathlessness, sleeping disorders, sweating among others.

AND … being overweight stops us from getting the very best out of life and shortens our life by years. A report by the National Audit Office in the UK, suggested that being overweight can take off up to 9years of our lives. There are many reasons for this, but in developed countries, the easier access to over-processed diets and a less-active lifestyle play a major role.

In this article I focus on a fun, interesting and self-educating way you can cut down the amount of fatty and sugary foods (2 of the main contributing factors to obesity) in your diet. Believe it or not – it is quite easy to do. Follow my quick and easy steps and you will have a head start on your weight, health and other shoppers.

Without going into the science of the labels, if you want to lose weight and live a healthy life this is what you need to be looking at each time you buy foods that are packaged in a box, packet or can. To do a quick lesson at home on how to read labels, take out any one product from your grocery closet right now. Look for the NUTRTION FACTS food label on the box or can. You will be able to tell if your product is healthy if:
It contains less than 4g of sugar per serving.
The ingredients do not include corn sugar or high fructose.
The ingredients do not include any enriched – flour products. All flours need to be wholegrain ones.
The ingredients do not include hydrogenated, saturated fat oils or the term “transfats”. If there are saturated oils, it should contain less than 4g of saturated fats per serving.

Test this on a couple more items in your pantry and determine how healthy your household is. If you are serious about losing weight and being healthy, throw away all those products that are causing harm every time you cook and eat them. Replace them with healthier options. Of course the healthiest option is to cook fresh produce only. But, if you do use processed foods, have fun with the simple food label test and read your way to weight loss. Over time it will show. It does make a difference to both your waistline and your health.

To summarize, when reading the food label on the can or box, check for the amount of sugar, fat and fiber per serving. Pay special attention to the amount of “transfats” in the product. Avoid foods that have higher than 4g or sugars or fats per serving, foods that contain corn syrup and foods that include enriched flours.

Improving Curly Hair
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

These are often called curl boosters and curl revitalizers. There are several benefits that you will get from this curly hair care product. These curly hair products can help you by getting your styling product back up and running, so to speak. They also work on moisturizing your hair and giving you that refreshed look. They can also minimize frizz considerably. It is something you have to have for curly hair.

For those that use water in a spritz bottle, this will actually work against you giving you more of a frizz when the hair dries. What makes these curly hair products work then? There are many ingredients in them that help to deliver moisture and help to define curls. Magnesium sulfate works to activate styling products. Humectants like glycerin, botanical oils and honey work to help you as well in this manner. Polyquateriums as well as silicones are contained in these boosters and they help to minimize frizz and give your hair more definition.

One product that can help is that of the Mop Top Detangler & Refresher. It helps to add more moisture to your hair without leaving you with a sticking and frizzy mess. This curly hair care product is ideal because it has sea botanicals, aloes and honey in it along with glycerin, all of which help to promote healthy hair. The salts that are included, such as magnesium sulfate and sea salt, are ideal for helping to boost the quality of your curl without causing that sticky feeling. These help to balance the curly hair care product and keep it weightless without limiting the curly hair benefits it offers.

Another product that can be helpful is that of the Curlisto Glow and Shine. It helps to give this same weightless shine and provides a finished, tailored look. Another solution to keep your curly hair looking great for more than one day is to use Davacurl Set It Free. To use, flip your hair over and spray it down. Then, flip it back over and do a very light misting of the curly hair care product over the top. You can also use this product to help you with a freshened up look so that you do not have to wash it as often as you are currently doing.

When you add a curly hair revitalizer to your hair the second day after a washing, you will be able to extend the use of the curly hair products that you used the day before. More so, you are increasing the moisture of the products in your hair as well. The key to success here is using a water soluble product that will not build up in your hair. You also do not want to overuse the product because that too can cause frizz and a weighed down look that you do not want.

Those that have locks and twists in their hair will want to use a curl rejuvenator as well. Here, the curly hair product is going to work to provide you with more moisture and a refreshed look. To use this product for this need, simply give each of your curls a spray with the product when they need it. Your curly hair will look nothing short of amazing when you do so.

Triumph for a Heart Patient
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

She ought to be dead, but adult stem cell therapy has ensured a California woman with Cardiomyopathy continues to live an active life without any further deterioration to her damaged heart.

Clara Chestnut from California has just become one of only a handful who have received her second treatment of adult stem cells for her failing heart. “I’ve been going downhill since 2000, with every year more of my heart being dead,” she said. “But after my first treatment in April 2006 my cardiologists have done a huge attitude shift and now recognize that ‘No change’ is a certificate of my wellbeing. Staying the same is terrific, so if it takes coming back every year I will do that.”

Like many heart patients Clara had experienced several heart attacks without knowing what they were. Her doctor concurred that at 59 the pains she experienced were probably arthritis, so she started carrying her purse on the other arm, but it made no difference. Then in 2000 she had two major heart attacks and started on the downhill slide. Specialists gave her 30days to live without a bypass and also told her she probably would not survive the surgery.

Clara got mad and searched until she found someone who could help her. “I wasn’t ready to die, and I knew that someone, somewhere, knew more than those people,” she said. Her new doctor gave her the first of seven stents and she felt “wonderful”. She read about singer Don Ho and his success story with VesCell adult stem cells, so did her research and in the face of her doctors’ opposition went to Bangkok in the care of TheraVitae, a leading international biotechnology company whose product, VesCell, has now helped hundreds of heart failure and PAD patients. “I was most impressed with the professionalism of the doctors and the nursing staff. Everything went fine and the following February I returned to my specialist for a cardiogram. He told me nothing had changed, so I asked him ‘Would you go back to Bangkok if you were me?’ He said that he would, but that I didn’t have to leave the next morning! That is an enormous attitude change.”

People looking for hope and help, who want to feel better and be more active, are the most outspoken advocates of adult stem cell therapy. “I listen to myself and I feel anybody with any sense would listen to themselves and know it’s something they should do. They know how they are feeling. They know how wonderful it would be to feel better. I don’t see why anybody would be reluctant,” she said.

Jon Bradshaw writes constantly about the next to miraculous effects of adult stem cells. Theravitae’s Vescell adult stem cells the new frontier of regenerative medicine. Can Memory Loss Be Linked to Aspartame
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

New research presented at the November meeting of Society for Neuroscience in New Orleans suggests NutraSweet (or aspartame) could be linked to aspartame consumption. Researchers at a University in Fort Worth, Texas believe aspartame consumed in excess could cause certain kinds of memory loss.

Ninety students were studied and interviewed in one study. In this study their use of aspartame and memory problems were documented. The results, those that consumed aspartame regularly complained of forgetfulness related to various tasks they perform on a regular basis. They would forget to perform tasks at the time the tasks were scheduled to be performed. The students’ perceptions of their memory problems have yet to be backed up with concrete test results. Researchers tested students on short term memory with quizzes which tested the student’s ability to remember lists, phone numbers, and faces. Some of the researchers argued that this was not a real life test because all the students had similar results.

Head of the study Timothy Barth, PH.D., stated that measuring everyday memory is difficult to perform and recommended further research be done to test memory and behavior in subjects ingesting varying amounts of aspartame. As a result, researchers believe the occasional ingestion of aspartame will not cause memory problems that are noticeable. The students who reported problems were consuming at least four diet drinks per day.

The brain has an amazing ability to protect its self from small amounts of aspartame, but large amounts along with stress can have adverse affects on the brain. Children, the elderly, and those with brain injuries are most at risk. The researchers in these studies did comment that occasional consumption of aspartame is ok, but all the researchers performing the tests do not consume diet sodas at all.

If you are worried about the affects of aspartame on your body and are not sure you currently consume too much, cut aspartame out completely for a week or two and see if your memory improves. Other factors like diet can affect your memory; researchers at General Mills showed that eating breakfast can boost memory in studies on elderly and children. Researchers are unsure why breakfast boosts memory, possibly because we do not eat for 7 – 8 hours through the night. Further research needs to be preformed on how protein, fat, and carbohydrates affect memory.

One more factor that might preserve memory is an antioxidant rich diet. Several studies have shown positive results when one consume foods rich in antioxidants. It’s important to take vitamin A, C, and E in supplement form; these vitamins are great antioxidants which may help preserve memory. Also, eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Great supplements like vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E can be found at your local or internet health food store.

Combat Cellulite With Aromatherapy
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

As you may know, Aromatherapy is the use of volatile liquid parts of plants, which are called essential oils, for various natural treatments. It is a holistic alternative therapy that has been used since antiquity from all major civilizations and its popularity has been increasing recently.

Cellulite is the dimpling skin found especially on thighs and sometimes on tummy, back of arms and bottom which looks lumpy and ripply. While it is harmless, cellulite discomforts female population especially in summer time. Almost every woman (even the slimmest ones) has cellulite to some degree. It is believed that cellulite is not only fat, but accumulation of fat, fluids and toxins which are trapped in the skin, owing to weakening of the connective tissue.

Keep in mind that there are many things to do to reduce cellulite, but nothing can eliminate one hundred percent the “orange peel” surface of female skin at affected areas. Just to name few, increasing body exercise, decreasing fat income and sugar, drinking many cups of water, avoiding coffee and eating fruits rich in C vitamin, are suggested for combating cellulite. In this article we will present you some aromatherapy tips that can help you remove cellulite.

Essential oils can assist with anti-cellulite treatment in two major ways: Reducing body toxins, waste matter and imprisoned liquids and enhancing blood circulation. The essential oils that are used most for cellulite therapy are Juniper, Citrus, Rosemary, Lemon, Lemongrass, Grapefruit and Geranium oil. Bath and especially massage are the most effective Aromatherapy uses for a successful cellulite cure.

Add 5-10 drops of your favourite essential oil in your bath water and stay in it for at least fifteen minutes, once a week. This time allows essential oil to penetrate your skin and its diuretic and circulation boosting action to be more effective.

Aromatherapy massage is probably the most useful alternative method for treating cellulite because it is applied directly to the affected part of skin and encourage body detoxication and blood circulation. Carrier (or base) oils from various vegetables are used for essential oil dilution. Appropriate carrier oils for massage are among others, Avocado, Jojoba and Almond. Remember to follow carefully the safety rules for essential oils uses. Otherwise, you will run the risk to irritate and harm your skin.

Aromatherapy is not only a delightful and refreshing activity. It is beneficial for a lot of health conditions including skin diseases like cellulite. Using the right essential oils in bath and massage you can regenerate skin cells and reduce the toxins and fat that turn into cellulite.

Overcoming Anxiety, Fear, and Phobias
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Malaysia is a natural and beautiful water sport haven. Yet many people are afraid of water. They cannot, or will not, learn to swim because they fear they will drown. Some are terrified that ‘Jaws’ dwells under their feet when at sea.

Snakes , spiders, high places and public speaking also make many people uncomfortable. But for some, these objects and settings cause overwhelming feelings of fear and apprehension - reaction defined as a phobia.

For sufferers, the road to fear can be treacherous, made worse because they feel they have no control. This results in loss of confidence and self-worth and increasing frustration, feeding energy into this unwanted emotions and making them strong and significant. You become a victim of your own emotions; negative emotions gone wild, unleashed in disarray, very rebellious and disruptive.

We all have fears, but they are not necessarily strong enough to cause us problems. We may not like spiders or snakes and may go out of your way to avoid them, but this is different from having a phobia about something. The phobias suffers the most acute fright. It is as powerful as being in fear of losing one’s life. It brings on sweats, palpitations of the heart, nausea, fainting and the feeling that the hairs on your arms and the back of your neck are standing on end.

A phobia is a fear and may even be exaggerated by fear of the fear itself. It is a learned response; you are not born with it. It isn’t necessarily caused by a terrible trauma; it can derive from something that now seems insignificant but made an impression on you when you were a child. Or it can be as simple as mistaken reaction that has become a habit, or a reaction ‘caught’ from your parents or someone you admired - or even from someone you don’t like. Phobias can be anything imaginable, or even unimaginable.

To complicate things further, a person may have a phobia about one thing when the true underlying fear is related to something quite different. Thus a therapist, doctor, psychologist or the sufferer himself or herself is left working completely blind, leading to the wrong conclusions and the result that the sufferer is still stuck with the phobia.

Work in hypnosis offers a gentle way out. It is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for people who suffer from phobias, anxiety, panic attacks and for many these make their life a misery. It is possible that a trauma related phobia can be cleared with suggestion therapy, which will normally uncover a trauma.

Hypnosis enables you to form a good habit or break a bad one with positive suggestions. An accepted suggestion is formed to instruct your inner mind. We need to find out how and why our fear is being fueled and channeled with energy. Then we can starve the source, which in turn will stop the phobic attacks forever.

If the fear has been ‘inherited’ rather than based on some personal trauma, then simple suggestion therapy will clear it up completely and, generally permanently. The information lies in the subconscious, and the only route to the subconscious is through self-hypnosis or other neuro-linguistic techniques.

Face Skin Care
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

The skin is considered to be the largest organ of the human body and yet most of the people neglect to maintain their skin’s health. Healthy and supple skin is everybody’s dream it is possible, if you take proper precautions and pay attention to your diet and exercise. Balanced diet, hydration and protecting from sun and wind should be a part of your daily regimen for skin care. Skin care must be done according to your skin type. The secret of consistently good skin is a daily skin care routine consisting of various processes such as cleansing, toning and moisturizing. These processes are effective for both men and women. These are the four basic steps for your face skin care and cannot be skipped on any account, if you really want a naturally glowing skin.

Cleansing skin: Cleansing skin regularly is quite important to avoid acnes and other types of skin problems. For this process the type of cleanser you choose will depend, to a great extent, on the type of skin you have as well as personal preference. Nowadays various types of cleansers are available in the market such as soap, creams, wipes, milks and lotions etc. Regularly wash your skin using a mild face washes and wipe off with a clean washcloth. It is very important to get free of any impurities like dirt particles and make up is required before going to sleep so that your skin can breathe properly at night. Try to use mild cleanser at least twice a day and make sure that it rinses away easily, does not cause skin irritation and do not wash away natural oils present on your skin.

Toning skin: Proper use of a toner is immediately done after cleansing which would ensure complete removal of any remaining particles of makeup, dirt and the cleanser itself. Apart from these toners cools, nourishes, hydrates and freshens up your skin. These toners contain a small proportion of alcohol, which has a pleasantly astringent effect. These toners tighten up skin and close up any skin pores that may have opened up while deep cleansing the face. Toners must be alcohol-free as alcohol dries off your skin. Toners for oily skin usually contain the most alcohol and for dry skin, it will be least. Exfoliating skin: Exfoliant removes dead cells from the skin, rejuvenate the skin and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles from the face. Exfoliant not only cleanse up the skin but also removes dead skin flakes. The younger skin which, surface after exfoliation naturally looks more beautiful and glowing. These products generally have alpha or beta hydroxy acids in order to quicken up the process. Avoid use of granular exfoliant, which may cause skin damage.

Moisturizing skin: All types of skin need moisturizing, no matter what its type. Like our body, our skin also needs hydration and proper nutrients to keep it very healthy. There are numerous moisturizers available on the market, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face. So, treat your face with a good moisturizer and a broad-spectrum sunscreen with more than SPF 15 every day and night cream daily, which helps the skin to balance and restores any damage that might have occurred to it overnight.

Do I Really Have Migraine Headaches?
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Over 40% of people with severe headache pain aren’t even aware their condition is technically and medically a migraine.
Additionally, many migraine headaches have been actually misdiagnosed as tension headaches, sinus headaches or even TMJ - headaches associated with jaw problems. Most people who are researching the internet for information on migraines clearly understand that they have migraine headaches. But for the remainder it may not be so clear. Many of you have written us with detailed descriptions of your headaches and asking, “Do I have migraine headaches”? Nearly half of the messages our clinic receives on a daily basis can be summed up in a single question:

“What kind of headache do I really have?”

And the answer is usually very simple:

Your TENSION (or SINUS) (or CLUSTER) headache might actually be a MIGRAINE headache!

Here are the facts - approximately 1 out of every 10 Americans experiences migraines. For women, it is much higher number – as much as 1 out of every 3 around the age of 35.

Yet many people suffer needlessly because neither they nor their doctors recognize the symptoms that can accompany migraines. They also underestimate the impact that their headaches are having on their lives and on their families.

The bottom line is if you don’t get the relief you need for your frequent bad headaches, you may have migraines. In fact, in the United States alone over 14 million people who suffer from migraines have not been diagnosed with migraines yet. Could you be one of them?

Cluster Headaches are often misdiagnosed as well.

Cluster headache, which is an incredibly severe headache, is frequently just another form of a migraine headache. Cluster headaches are usually found in men. There is a great deal of controversy whether cluster headaches are a subset of migraine headaches since many of the symptoms overlap.

If you experience any 3 or more of the following symptoms, you are highly likely to have migraines:

• Your headache feels like someone has stabbed an ice pick inside your brain
• Pain is usually one-sided (but can be both-sided, especially if around the eyes)
• Your headache does not respond to regular over-the-counter painkillers
• Pain is pulsating, pounding, or throbbing
• Light and sound bother you a lot
• Pain worsens when you move or bend over
• Pain becomes so intense that you throw up or become nauseated
• You get dizzy just by turning your head (lying in bed)
• You feel that you have to lie down, go to bed, or withdraw to a quiet dark room
• Vision may be blurred, like a curtain comes down over your visual field in one or both eyes
• The headache can last from several hours to several days (or even weeks)

People with tension headaches or sinus headaches do not and never will have a disabling headache. Cluster headaches are frequently a subset of a migraine headache.

The key word here is “DISABLING”. If your “tension” or “sinus” headache is disabling, then you do not have a tension or sinus headache. You have a migraine. Only migraine headaches are disabling.

If you are reading this article because of severe, debilitating headaches that are poisoning your life, do not respond to painkillers, and keep coming back over and over again, you are very likely to have migraines. People with standard tension or sinus headaches do not bother to look them up on the Internet.

You are here because YOUR bad headaches are interfering with your life and you are looking for a way to fix that. If you keep suffering through tremendous pain along with other symptoms mentioned above, then you have migraine headaches.

For those of you who have been told by numerous doctors over the last decade that your disabling headaches are not migraines – the good news is that migraine headaches are now a treatable and curable condition.

A Better Method

There is another option as opposed to suffereing and just treating the “outbreaks” – a migraine cure. Cure the migraine and never worry about headache pain again.

Recent reports indicate migraine headaches can indeed be totally abolished – as a number of elite medical clinics catering to women have testified. Under their treatment protocols, migraines are completely eliminated in 80% of their patients.

These successes are limited to women only, as addressing a woman’s hormones is the basis of the cure. Some clinics have published their treatment protocols and even made them available to the public.

The Women’s Health Institute of Texas believes that a migraine cure certainly eliminates the migraine headaches altogether - at least in women.

Do You Feel Life Is Stretching You Like A Rubberband?
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

The Principle of the Rubber Band:

This principle explains that being stretched can turn out to be very positive. Imagine you hold one end of a rubber band in one hand while stretching the opposite end with your other hand. The more you stretch the rubber band, the more it wants you to let go of it so it can come back to its original position. It just wants to return to its place of comfort.

Yet if we continue stretching it, that rubber band will eventually grow into a new size. When we let go of it now, it will come back some, but not the entire distance. In essence, it has developed a new dimension.

Now imagine that you dip this original rubber band into hot wax and remove it quickly. You then allow the wax to dry. At this point, if you repeat the stretching exercise you’ll notice that the wax caked around it cracks and crumbles, as you extend the rubber band. Then it falls off.

The same dynamic occurs with humans. We don’t want to get stretched, because it will involve letting go of some external layers. We are comfortable within those layers, and they may even seem to be protecting us. Yet, in fact, they are getting in the way of the new, evolving being who we already are on the inside. They are an impediment to our growth.

Like that rubber band, we must temporarily experience being uncomfortable when we stretch and grow. In the process of becoming the butterfly we were metaphorically meant to be, we are outgrowing a cocoon. The butterfly doesn’t snip off its wings and re-enter the cocoon. It knows of no such thing. But we, as human beings, have a tendency to snip our own new-grown wings so we can retreat to the cocoon that represents our old zone of comfort. Unfortunately, the zone of comfort is seldom the territory of fulfillment. The butterfly has no choice.

As human beings we have the ability to make choices. The next time you are feeling stretched and uncomfortable, pat yourself on the back and say “Good for me. I must be growing!” In fact, if you are not stretching, growing, and evolving, then you
are probably too attached to being comfortable. A true lesson of life and a new level of wisdom will both arrive when you instead respect The Principle of the Rubber Band.

It is absolutely crucial that you must not judge, criticize, and compare yourself to others while you are being stretched. To do so will only make you feel stuck. You will focus on the pain of stretching, and want to go back to your old cocoon. Instead, treat yourself as compassionately as you would a child who is learning to ride a bicycle without training wheels. Give yourself extra nurturing. Drink a cup of hot tea, go for a walk, read a book, take a few deep breaths, and above all be patient. Training wheels have allowed that child to develop a sense of balance, to know how the bicycle is ultimately going to feel under their control. But if that child doesn’t eventually ride without training wheels, they will never experience how fast they can truly go, how sharply they can maneuver around obstacles, and how self-confident they can feel.

Therefore, always strive for the courage to take the extra wheels off. And one day you will do it. Because you realize that remaining in the “training wheel zone” will prevent you from reaching a new level in life of manifestation and creation.

Now imagine that you are a gardener who tends a rose bush. You notice a new green bud that appears, but as the days go by it remains closed. It’s afraid of opening up. It is resisting the processes of blossoming, changing, and stretching.

Alongside it there is another new bud, one that has decided to open up and – in spite of the possibility of cold rain, tornadoes, and hurricanes – it has further decided to blossom. Once it has opened, people passing by are inspired to notice its beauty, smell its fragrance, and touch its silky pedals.

When eventually that rose dies, it’s petals fall all round. People who walk close by notice the pedals on the ground, and they know that a fully blossomed rose once existed. Meanwhile, the unopened bud also dies. It shrivels, crumbles, and falls away.
No one but the gardener ever noticed that it was alive or even notices now that it has gone.

The Benefits of a Good Exercise Program
Posted by: maximilium

The benefits of an exercise program and a healthy diet are like a hand in a glove…the two go well together.

Now let me be clear, if I had to choose between physical health and nutritional health, I would choose nutritional health every time.

There have been world-class athletes that have drop dead because of diet related diseases, so to me nutritional health far exceeds physical health. Nevertheless as I stated before, the two go well together. So I highly recommend that you get into a good exercise program.

Exercise and a Clearer Complexion

During my early teen years I began having problems with acne on my face. I hated it.

When I turned 16 I joined the track team in high school and started running several days a week. To my surprise the acne on my face began clearing up. I later learned that exercising at an appropriate intensity causes the pores on your skin to open and release sweat, which contains impurities. Resulting in clearer complexion.

Exercise and Weight Loss

The concept of losing weight is simple…burn more calories than you take in.

The human body is like a motor vehicle. The faster or longer a car goes the more fuel it burns. The faster or longer our bodies move during exercise, the more calories that otherwise would be stored as fat is burnt. That is why getting into a good exercise program is such a great idea for someone wanting to lose weight.

Exercise and Mental Health

According to the 1996 U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Public Health, physically active people tend to have better mental health.

To me this report helps confirm a research done at a major university on people that suffered from depression. 60% of those who took part in the research that exercised for 30 minutes three times a week overcame their depression without taking any antidepressant medication.

I was at a park sometime ago and met a gentleman who told me that he loved coming to the park to walk because he found that it was a great way to relieve stress.

I can tell you from my own personal experience that when you are in good shape physically you feel a lot better mentally.

Here are some other health benefits of exercise:

1. Helps in the reducing of High blood pressure.
2. Helps prevent and control type 2 diabetes.
3. Helps prevent Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is the thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time.
4. Helps prevent heart disease and stroke.
5. Helps improve mood.
6. Helps keep muscles strong.
7. Helps reduce risk of colon, prostate and breast cancer.

Tips on Beginning a Exercise Program

1.Before beginning any exercise program, be sure to talk with your doctor.
2. Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to make exercise part of your lifestyle.
3. It’s important to start an exercise program slowly if you have not exercised for a long period of time.
4. Choose an exercise program that you enjoy doing. (I like running). You may like walking, swimming, gardening, skiing, or riding a bike. Remember it is up to you.
5. If you find yourself getting bored of one exercise simply change it. For example you may want to walk for six months and then for the other half of the year jog.
6. Find a routine that works for you. I run 18 miles per week. I do nine miles on Wednesdays and nine miles on Friday or Saturday. That is what works for me. However there are people who run three miles per day six days a week. That is what works for them. Get the picture?
7. Have Fun! If you do you will stick to your exercise program.

Acupuncture Certification FAQs
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Find acupuncture certification programs in the United States and Canada. Acupuncture certification is an important step in practicing this alternative healing art. Students interested in earning the valuable credential of acupuncture certification must first complete required coursework and successfully graduate from one of several acupuncture schools.

In general, acupuncture certification programs extended through one of many Oriental medicine schools or acupuncture schools will include three or four-year studies to help students gain the necessary skills and knowledge to practice acupuncture. In addition to acupuncture needling techniques, students will learn about Chinese Medicine, principles, and philosophies; and will gain practical clinical and classroom training. In many cases, students who aspire to earn acupuncture certification will discover that many acupuncture schools will combine education in acupuncture with Oriental medicine, including courses in Tui Na, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and medical Chinese terminology; and associated education in anatomy, physiology, and other respective subjects of study.

While there are several styles of acupuncture, including 5-element acupuncture and Kiiko Matsumoto style (among others), acupuncture certification programs are not intended for any one specific style, but for acupuncture practitioners who desire to improve their professional outlook.

Typically, acupuncture certification is attained by taking a certification examination through the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine). Eligibility for candidates who desire to gain acupuncture certification and earn the title of Diplomate (Dipl. Ac.), must have acquired a formal education in acupuncture and must have met all accreditation requirements.

Consequently, if graduates have received their acupuncture degrees, but have not obtained all necessary coursework for acupuncture certification can earn and present supplemental education through an ACAOM-accredited or candidate school. Furthermore, practitioners who have earned their acupuncture certification must acquire a minimum of 60 PDA (Professional Development Activity) points for recertification.

Vision Boards Will Help You Achieve Your Dreams
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Do you want to develop super focus and clarity in your life?

If so, the creation of a simple dream board or vision board may be the very answer that will help to place you in the league of the super achiever.

So what exactly is a vision board?

Also known as ‘dream boards’, they are a simple and visual representation of your goals, aims and objectives in life. Usually they are no more than and eclectic mixture of pictures and images which accurately portray something which you wish to own, become or achieve in the near future.

Most vision boards would be a collection of images cut out from old magazines, with a few additional photographs all pasted onto a board which is then hung in a place of prominence so you will be reminded of your goals every time that you pass.

However, what is of most importance is what they mean to their creator and the intention behind creating them.

For some people their vision board becomes the big picture of their life, and a route map to their success. As our mind moves us towards the achievement of what we think about most a vision board makes perfect sense. We are in fact creating a giant aide-memoire that is a constantly reminder of the route we have set for ourselves in life.
At subliminal level the act of creating a dream board becomes a powerful intention and driving force to take positive action and start achieving and moving us towards our objective.

Dream boards can specifically focus on just one goal, or a mixture of all of your goals, the choice is yours. If you are a visual person, then time spent in developing a creative and exciting vision board will be a strong motivator for you to take action on a regular basis.

A tried, tested and proven principle…

The marketing and advertising industry have been using the dream board principle successfully for many years. They well know that a good picture or image can often do more to fire the desire of potential prospects, than a thousand well written words. So why shouldn’t it work well for you also.

You can get started on your vision board today by collecting suitable photographs and images as and when you see them. As your collection grows you can start to organise them into more specific goals and objectives.

One person that I know created his vision board digitally in a graphics program on his computer. He then sent his high definition file to a local digital printer to reproduce as a large poster size images. Surprisingly he managed to get 5 high quality prints for under£20! He then hung his vision boards around his home and place of work.

He also turned that same vision board into a screen saver for his computer which means he was constantly exposed to it and what he wanted to achieve.

Remember to hang your vision board in prominent position where you will see it regularly.

There are many amazing stories about the success of vision boards and how they help you achieve your goals. The one I like most is about the person who discovered that he was living in the exact house from one of his early vision boards. The reason he didn’t immediately recognise this fact was that he made a number of house moves as his career escalated and had left his vision boards safely packed and in storage.

Only after he had moved into his recently acquired mansion and still unpacking, his son queried the contents of the unpacked storage box in his study did he make this remarkable discovery.

Put your life into top gear by developing a vision board today

Law of Attraction and Divine Order
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

I remember as a child hearing that “Order is heaven’s first law.” I think it was when my mother wanted me to clean my room. In addition, I know that my friend Judy used to say, “Order is about finding a place for everything and then it is about remembering where it is.”

Therefore, order is really about knowing where everything is. That is the kind of order I hire an assistant for. It could not be an innate Divine Quality, or it would have come naturally. Straightening out my desk does not come naturally to me. Keeping clean closets and drawers? for some it comes naturally, but for the rest of us?

If you study personality types, you understand there are different ways of being. Therefore, the above could not exactly be what order as a Divine Quality means. However, the very fact that most of us, including myself, have a longing to have things in their proper place, (I really feel better when they are that way) and that is why I get someone else to do those things. Therefore, it is an indication that there is something here to look at.

You can relax because I am not going to tell you that order definitely means a clean desk, because you will check mine! Instead, I want to share a story.

A Navajo Indian and his friend were in downtown New York City, walking near Times Square in Manhattan. It was during the noon lunch hour and the streets were filled with people. Cars were honking their horns, taxicabs were squealing around corners, sirens were wailing. The sounds of the city were almost deafening. Suddenly the Navajo said, “I hear a cricket.” His friend said, “What? You must be crazy. You couldn’t possibly hear a cricket in all of this noise!”

“No, I’m sure of it,” the Navajo said, “I heard a cricket.” “That’s crazy,” said the friend. The Native American listened carefully for a moment, and then walked across the street to a big cement planter where some shrubs were growing. He looked into the bushes, beneath the branches, and sure enough, he located a small cricket.

His friend was utterly amazed. “That’s incredible,” said his friend. “You must have super-human ears!” “No.” said the Navajo, “My ears are no different from yours. It all depends on what you’re listening for.” “But that can’t be!” said the friend. “I could never hear a cricket in this noise.” Yes, it’s true,” came the reply.

“It depends on what is really important to you. Here, let me show you.” He reached into his pocket, pulled out a few coins, and discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk. Then, with the noise of the crowded street still blaring in their ears, they noticed every head within twenty feet turn and look to see if the money that tinkled onto the pavement was theirs. “See what I mean?” asked the Navajo. “It all depends on what’s important to you.”

What is important to you? What do you listen for? What are you hearing lately? When you listen to the news? When your friends talk? When you listen to your own internal dialogue?

What do your eyes see? Do you see a world that is torn by strife and terrorism? Do you see lack and limitation all around you? Do you see not-enoughness? Do you see random events happening with no control over them? Do you see chaos? Alternatively, do you see with a different set of eyes and hear with your inner ears that KNOW without a doubt that everything? In addition, I do mean everything. Is in perfect Divine Order. After all, if you know “the Secret”, it all works by the Law of Attraction.

Nursery Storage Ideas
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

When designing a child’s bedroom or nursery all too often the decisions about storage tend to come quite far down the list of essentials. With the pressing matters of colour schemes and décor it can be all too easy to overlook the essential need for practical storage solutions. Bedroom storage needn’t stop at toy boxes as there are a number of stylish options out their.

With the arrival of a new child parent soon come to realize the necessity of designated areas for all the nik-naks and accessories that go with modern parenting and the need to house the fast growing toy collection, book library and the many other necessities of life.

With a baby the key needs are reasonably straight forward but with a little planning a room and its storage capability can grow with the child to ensure the bedroom doesn’t become a cluttered mess.

Babies main needs are simple; somewhere for clothing, a place for bedding, storage for changing paraphernalia such as nappies and wipes and some form of toy storage for the many gifts that although may not be appropriate now will be treasured toys for later life.

A great solution for bedding and toys is a toy box and blanket box. In fact with the stylish designs on the market toy boxes can be used for either purpose. In addition many modern changing stations allow for the accessible storage of nappies, wipes and other changing gear. Modern toyboxes also tend to feature a number of safety features to prevent small hands from becoming trapped and stop lids from slamming.

At this point however it is always useful to think ahead. Baby won’t be baby for long and with toddler hood comes a whole new set of challenges. One item overlooked by many is the need for somewhere to store the vast libraries of books the majority of toddlers seem to accumulate. There are now many bookcases designed purely for children’s bedrooms in a variety of designs from fire stations to castles to fairy castles allowing them to add extra style to a child’s bedroom.

The next overlooked area is shelving! Shelves are a great way of preventing the floor resembling a bomb site and also can prevent young hands from reaching things they shouldn’t. A set of sturdy shelves can house anything and again many stylish designs exist to compliment the look of your nursery or child’s bedroom.

At the heart of a child’s room is likely to be clothes storage in the form of wardrobes and chests of drawers. Designers now cater for the child market with a range of funks designs and features such as double railed wardrobes that increase the usability of the furniture. When choosing furniture spend as much as you can comfortably afford as good furniture will last for years and repay the investment whereas inferior products tend to wear out and fall apart before your child has outgrown them.

It is also important to give a little thought to the future. The obsession with Pooh may be emphatic now but 12 months down the line the expensive Tigger Toybox, Eeyore Wardrobe and Pooh bed might not be flavour of the month. It is therefore sensible to buy neutral furniture and create the look with accessories such as lampshades, wallpaper, borders and curtains to ensure you don’t end up spending a vast fortune on a fad.

So with this information in mind it’s time to plan for that nursery or bedroom and head out looking for toxboxes. ——— Gary Clay is an expert on toy boxes and a retailer of a number of stlylish nursery storage solutions.

Principles of Receiving
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

The Principle of Receiving:

What do you say when someone gives you a compliment? What does your body language communicate? More importantly how do you feel?
America’s greatest humorist, Mark Twain, felt this way: “I have been complimented myself a great many times, and they always embarrass me – I always feel they have not said enough.”
His wonderful joke touches upon our ambivalence about receiving. We simultaneously feel that we may not be worthy, and also that we actually want more.

Many of us have blocks that hamper the natural act of receiving. The Principle of Receiving says, though, that we need to allow ourselves to be open to abundance of all kinds.
Resisting compliments, or any other form of receiving, will block the flow of abundance into your life.

How do you go about removing any blocks you may have?
Start with a basic tool. This can be your service. You market this basic tool or service to others. By being open to receiving, you create profit. With consistency and time, this profit
will turn into bigger profits, which can empower you to give an even bigger service if you choose. Therefore we are able to begin with service and end with a bigger service. The
bridge from one to another is built by our ability to be open to receiving, and therefore to collect the profits we create. That is why you don’t ever want to say, “I don’t need that much
money.” Why? Because with the financial abundance you create you would be able to assist and empower millions of others.

Receiving financially is accelerated in two ways.
The first is to be bold and ask. The second, if the answer turns out to be no, is to take absolutely no offense. This is the formula for production and success: to boldly ask for what
we want in exchange for our services, and to never be so attached to the outcome that we can only live with an answer of yes. Conversely, to be afraid to ask, and to be attached
to the outcome, is a sure formula for lack and struggle.

Receiving is not only about our ability to receive money. It is also about our ability to receive love. Many people don’t allow others to become emotionally close because they are
anticipating them eventually leaving. Subconsciously, they are afraid of being rejected, hurt, and feeling sad once again.

To become open to receiving, we must trust that the journey will unfold as it should, and whether the outcome is positive or negative according to our perceptions and expectations
along the way, we must still have gratitude for what is. The wonderful paradox in The Principle of Receiving is that our “attitude of gratitude” not only lessens the likelihood that we will
suffer from fears of hurt and rejection, it also attracts positive outcomes.

Law of Attraction: A Summary
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

In its elementary, most uncomplicated form, Law of Attraction (LOA) insists on the soundness of one deeply embedded saying: like attracts like. The thing is that the matters on which you set most of your interests, most of your attention are the ones that will be instantly drawn into your life. These are all important aspects that will guide your life. Whether they will tyrannize it or favorably manage it, this is one consequence that only depends on your attitude. However, we could easily wonder why then we aren’t all happy, wealthy and healthy. Aren’t all people focusing on these issues?

To be true, the answer to this question is NO, unfortunately. Most of us don’t really concentrate on the best things in our lives. On the contrary, we tend to only see what’s most unfortunate or sad. If something wrong is going on, we barely think of something else but to that unhappy situation, instead of focusing on the potential solutions. Apparently this is deep-rooted in our human nature and it takes quite some practice to change this habit.

Consider this: is it difficult for you to accept the fact that just by thinking – really thinking – about it you could be happy? Well, if you cannot accept this, you have a long way to go to settle things down with LOA. If you think that it is impossible to get rich, to be healthy, to be loved, to keep fit, to love, the immediate consequence delivered by virtue of LOA is that you will not be rich, healthy, loved, fit or loving. In other words, thinking in terms of impossibility attracts the impossibility of all the things you desire, but don’t feel confident enough that you can get. In this manner, you are summoning only the negative aspects of LOA.

If you want to call forth the positive attainments of LOA, you need to focus on the things you want. Don’t over-exaggerate with the idea that you don’t have them. On the contrary, allow your mind to picture them, dream them up, and anticipate just how it feels to have them. You need to be confident that you will obtain all those things you envisage. This is how LOA will suggest to you the best possible means of getting what you need. Indeed, LOA will not make happiness fall from the clear blue skies: it will offer you the best approaches that will facilitate your road towards happiness.

In the end, it is all a matter of positive vibrations. Of course, some work will have to be done; LOA is not a magic wand or the fairy godmother that will make you thin in a second or bring you wealth at a clap of hands. On the contrary, in order to have access to the proper mechanisms that will lead your way to attaining what you wish for, you need to grow aware of the influence that LOA has on the fortunate or unfortunate development of your enterprises. So prepare your mind to accept the positive things in your life and positive outcomes will not fail to turn visible.

Think Pool Safety While Booking Your Summer Holiday
Posted by: TheHealthyVillage

Swimming is a fantastic sport and leisure activity which many adults and especially, children love. Try keeping an energetic child out of a swimming pool if it is available, regardless of how blue their lips are with cold!

Even within the confines of a public swimming pool with other swimmers nearby and all Health and Safety standards/government legislation adhered to, including life-guards, drowning does occur.

With private/home pools, children are at the highest risk, younger children who escape supervision for a moment and fall in and older children who deliberately access the pool area whilst unsupervised are most at risk. However adults who are under the influence of drink or drugs are also at risk.

Indeed, concern is such that some countries have introduced legislation to ensure that home pools are fenced. French and Australian legislation states a minimum of 1.1 meter high fence with vertical rails of no more than 500mm apart must be installed. Any gate/access points should have a child-proof latch or lock and a self-closing mechanism.

Should a door from the house open directly onto the pool area, then this should be kept locked when the pool area is unsupervised. While these measures should ensure that toddlers cannot gain access to the pool, they will not stop a determined older child from accessing the pool but they may act as a deterrent.

Pool covers can operate as a safety feature, depending on the type of cover installed, however, soft covers, whose purpose is to prevent heat loss and exclude debris, will not offer any protection from drowning and may in fact exacerbate the problem. Someone falling into a pool with a soft pool cover may slip beneath the cover making it more difficult to get out and less likely that they will be detected.

Steps which can be taken to reduce the risk of a tragedy in a private/home swimming pool:-

• Fence the pool area and ensure that entry points are installed with locks which are either childproof or at adult height
• Warn children of the dangers of a swimming pool and the need to have an adult present
• Teaching children to swim will help however, it does not fully eliminate the risk (even children who could swim have been drowning victims)
• Always make visitors aware of the pool (particularly those with children)
• Install suitable and sufficient lifesaving devices
• Lock pool plant room and balance tank access points
• Learn rescue techniques, basic first aid and know who to phone in an emergency.
• Discourage swimming after a heavy meal, alcohol or drugs

Whilst fences and covers can offer some protection against children drowning in pools, there is no substitute for active and constant supervision, particularly of children.

If you remember only one thing from this article, consider that more children from the UK drown in hotel and villa pools abroad than drown in public pools at home. When booking accommodation for your holiday be sure to ask about pool safety from the owner or agent.
